Everyone loves a good happy hour, but basic well drinks just don’t cut it anymore. Over the last few years the number of amazingly talented bartenders and craft cocktail locations has grown so much that there’s no excuse to be boring anymore when it comes to letting loose and getting your drink on. After doing tons of research, don’t worry – we didn’t mind at all, we’ve narrowed it down to our five favorite cocktails in Brickell just in time for you to sip your last drinks of the year.
Sugar at East Miami, Mezcal Aviation
Bar Manager Sergio Sellares, has been killing it since day one at Miami’s newest rooftop bar, Sugar. Especially when it comes to his love child of a cocktail – the Mezcal Aviation. Unsuspecting at first, this pink drink doesn’t look like it packs much of a punch until you take the first sip. The smokey goodness of the mezcal keeps you coming back for more. It was one of the bar’s best kept secrets until it finally (and very deservingly) made it’s way to the menu in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, where the proceeds went to breast cancer research. An amazing cocktail and it’s saving the tatas?! Count us in! Though it’s no longer Breast Cancer Awareness month, you can still sip on this delicious cocktail all year long and we are so grateful for that.
Better Days, Rock You Like A Hurricane
Tucked away in the first floor of the 500 Brickell Building, Better Days started off as an “in-the-know” kind of place. After just over two years, it’s safe to say – if you know, then you are among the lucky ones. This year, Will Thompson of The Bridge Cocktail Bar (and previously Broken Shaker, Ball & Chain, currently The Local and Wynwood Diner as well – clearly he never stops) stepped in to create a much needed cocktail menu. We’ve followed him all over Miami and loved that he landed in Brickell. Our current obsession – Rock You Like A Hurricane, made with Afrohead Rum, Gra’it Grappa, Campari, lime juice, and rose grenadine. It reminds us of an amped up Mai Tai and makes us forget all about the hustle and bustle and makes for ‘better days’, see what we did there?
SoCal Cantina, Baby Cannon
SoCal Cantina is Brickell’s home for the best margaritas, so naturally they made it on our list because who doesn’t love a good margarita? The Baby Cannon is a classic strawberry margarita, but you can always count on it to be made with freshly muddled strawberries. Co-Owner AJ Billapando, says that’s the key to making a perfect margarita. There’s just enough lime juice to balance the sweetness of the strawberries. So good that sometimes we almost forget they have an entire menu of other delicious options! The best part – they are $7 during happy hour from 5pm-8pm.
Redbar, Banana Bread Old Fashioned
One of Brickell’s first cocktail bars, Redbar has always been a favorite spot of ours. With the constantly photographed “You Are Exactly Where You Need To Be” signage, it’s where you can find us often. We are big fans of their Banana Bread Old Fashioned – perfect for the whiskey lover who wants a little sweetness in their life. Old Forester bourbon and banana bread bitters are making this cocktail the perfect nightcap or dessert after the end of a long week (or day). But let’s be honest, the vibes in Redbar make any cocktail on their menu a great go-to.
Pawn Broker at The Langford Hotel, Giggle Water
The Pubbelly Boys are well known for their mouthwatering food, but earlier this year when they made landfall on the mainland at the Langford Hotel, their first cocktail focused concept was introduced – Pawn Broker. A rooftop lounge that we will never get enough of, once you step inside you’re transported to the Prohibition era and spoiled with cocktails full of history and meaning. Our favorite – Giggle Water, a gin cocktail served in a bathtub with lavender foam creating a bubble bath look. While it might seem strange to drink out of a bathtub, after the second one you might find yourself wanting to swim in a bathtub of this deliciousness.
