Once again we’ve made our way out of Brickell to Miami Beach to check out our options and stumbled upon Commonwealth on Washington Ave. The farm-to-table upscale American style menu, that still allows for you to feel like you are in a cozy bar, has been curated and created by Executive Chef Daniel Roy formerly known for working alongside Top Chef Winner Jeremy Ford and Chef Jean-Jorges at Matador Room at The Edition Hotel. Chef Roy brings over ten years of professional experience to Commonwealth Miami, creating a menu where the biggest driving factor was “cravability”, unique high-end dishes inspired by the smokiness of whiskey featuring deeper flavors to balance or offset the cocktails.
The menu has everything you’d want from a great bar including TONS of whiskey, cured smoked meats, tacos (they’ve got $2 Taco Tuesdays, amen to that), ceviche, lighter options such as salads, and small plates like the Duck Fat Fries (don’t skip out on those fries.) They’ve even got a burger with an egg in the bun. The Commonwealth Burger features Benton’s Bacon Marmalade, tickler cheese, and a fresh farm egg baked right into the bun. It’s just as delicious as it is messy!
What we love most about Commonwealth is the whiskey and bourbon selection. After a very well thought out and selective process, Commonwealth boasts over 100 whiskeys, scotches and bourbons from around the world as well as local craft beers, wines and an innovative craft cocktail menu. You can expect to find new twists on classics such as an Old Fashioned like the Strawberry Feelings featuring Dickel No.8, strawberry balsamic reduction and orange bitters. The Flamingo made with Toki Japanese Whiskey stirred with Angustora and charred grapefruit infused with Cocchi di Torino Vermouth and the Shady Sandy made with Bulleit Bourbon and Giffard pink grapefruit shaken with fresh lemon and topped with Hefeweizen. We’ve tried quite of a few of their cocktails and we can vouch for how well made they are.
As if Commonwealth couldn’t get any better, they have announced a new brunch beginning next week. We haven’t seen the menu yet, but anything coming out of Chef Daniel Roy’s kitchen must be delicious! Be on the lookout and make sure to add their brunch to your to do list, we are almost sure it’s going to be one of the best on the beach.
