There’s something about Memorial Day that speeds up the welcoming of summer. Even though there’s a full three weeks plus some before summer truly arrives, here in Miami we know summer is already here. With kids out of school and the heat kicking it up a notch, everyone is antsy to find fun things to do. Luckily, Brickell has no shortage of ways to keep it cool and enjoy the season.
Here’s a few ideas for how to make the most out of summer in Brickell:
Picnic on Brickell Key –
Brickell Key is easily one of the most beautiful overlooked spot in all of Miami. The glamorous island is home to the Mandarin Oriental where we are always up for cocktails at one of their many bars, but sometimes you just want to take it easy and enjoy the outdoors. That’s where the park on the south side of the island comes in handy with its constant bay breeze. It’s got the occasional yoga class with stunning views, picnic tables where you can have a great BBQ outing with friends and family, and a playground perfect for your kids to run around and play. Protip: This is a great spot to enjoy the Bayfront Park firework show on the 4th of July!
Enjoy Mexican Paletas at Tacology –
The summer heat can be brutal and makes us crave ways to stay cool. One of our favorite ways to satisfy our cool cravings is with homemade paletas. Tacology, a mercado style dining spot by Chef Santiago Gomez (also of Cantina la Veinte), is the perfect place to find these fresh and fruity creations. They offer the paletas in a variety of flavors such as: Mango, Limon, Tamarindo, Fresa con Crema, Chocolate, Pina Colada, and Corn-Caramel. These melt in your mouth desserts are the perfect way to cool down and enjoy the summer.
Sunset Sessions at Atton Miami Hotel –
Who doesn’t love a good rooftop pool soiree?! We know it seems like much more of a South Beach thing, but don’t worry – Brickell’s got one of their very in keeping to the cool Brickell style we know and love and it happens every Saturday. Check out the Saturday Sunset Sessions at Vista Rooftop Bar at the Atton where you can indulge in live music by the pool (or in the pool, hello summer), signature bites, and 50% off drinks from 2pm – 5pm. The DJ varies and the party goes all day long starting at 2pm and ending at 7pm. Stick around after to watch the sunset. Seriously, it’s pretty magical from this rooftop. We recommend getting there early, as the pool chairs are first come first serve.
Explore Frost Science Museum –
We know we’ve been obsessing over the new museum – but really who can blame us, even the NY Times has recognized how amazing our new hotspot is. The Phillip and Patricia Frost Science Museum has put us on the map with our first high-tech interactive science museum that’s been years in the making. There’s no shortage of ways to keep busy and cool. Between their laser light shows, massive aquarium with its insane Oculus, and the MeLaβ area for kids there’s plenty to do and see while roaming in and out of the air conditioning and making the most of the summer.
