Miami-Dade has requested that for-profit developers bid on privatizing the Rickenbacker and Venetian causeways.
Although the bidding documents provided few details on the plans for the Venetian, proposals for the Rickenbacker include a state-of-the-art observation deck, overpasses for bikers and pedestrians, and a rebuilt fishing pier.
The winning company will collect tolls and use the $510 million expected revenue to cover infrastructure repairs and replacements costs.
Along with a mini bridge being built specifically for bikers and pedestrians, the developer will construct a broad running path along the beaches.
According to the Miami Herald, the Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration based the request for proposals on the long-standing “Plan Z” to create a safer and more scenic biking route on the Rickenbacker.
