“Before you do anything, let’s see how you move,” said Troy Jason Valls, owner of Move. Lift. Live gym in Brickell. He explained that that mindset is the foundation of this gym.
“I wanted to build a place where our coaches are not just counting your reps, they’re not just pushing you to lift more weight or run faster,” Valls continued. “They’re actually taking the time to understand what limitations or history you may have so that if there’s anything holding you back, we can actually help you fix those so you could reach your full potential.”
Move. Lift. Live is not just a CrossFit gym. Because they coach a myriad of people, from beginners to advanced, from people currently rehabbing to people who just want to perfect their training, they offer several different programs.
You can choose whichever training program you’re comfortable with, whether that be Pulse (Bootcamp), Strength and Conditioning (CrossFit), Yoga or Mobility.
The wide range of training programs ensures that anyone and everyone could work out here, regardless of skill level. Although this is impressive on its own, it’s not what puts Move. Lift. Live on a pedestal.
Prior to discovering his passion for CrossFit, Valls had suffered from 15 years of back issues. “CrossFit doesn’t injure people,” he told me. “But what it does do is expose any weaknesses or limitations you have.” Because of that, he found himself on a pendulum between the gym and physical therapy. Feeling frustrated with constantly having to go back and forth, the epiphany hit. He wanted to bring everything together, and so he did. That’s when Move. Lift. Live was born. He created a place that puts as much emphasis on recovery and rehab as it does on training.
That being said, Move. Lift. Live has a doctor on-site that offers physical therapy seven days a week. All new members are asked if they have any limitations or history of injuries and if they do, they are referred to see Dr. Eric prior to starting any classes (the first consultation is free). A physical assessment is performed and both Dr. Eric and the trainers work together to come up with the best plan for the individual.
What Valls did was to bring a medical approach to the world of fitness and training. In converging the two, and taking the time to truly get to know the members, Move. Lift. Live optimizes workouts and recovery as much as possible, ensuring members reach their full potential.
This gym does a wonderful job of helping members feel comfortable. Starting a new workout regime at a new gym can be intimidating, but Move. Lift. Live brings a sense of community to the world of fitness and training. So, no matter where you are on your fitness journey…it’s time to Move. Lift. Live!
